I thought I'd explain one of our recycled craft projects that was fun to do but took lots of patience and quite a few old T shirt strips. I followed the Family Fun Magazine tutorial here http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/hula-hoop-rug-995304/ for weaving T shirt rugs on hula hoops and downsized the project by using embroidery hoops which I've collected from various thrift shops. Sure are lots of them out there. Anyway, we cut the shirts into one inch strips and took five to create the loom by tying them tightly around the frame. We wove in and out of each spoke and our first attempts were a bit wonky but once we got the hang of weaving in and out of each spoke, they turned out pretty cool. To create a basket shape, we pulled them tighter towards the end, tied them off and hand molded them into bowls. The kids liked that they resembled little birds nests.
